First weekend date for Helston Fatstock Show

-

Organisers of the traditional Helston Fatstock Show are making final preparations for this year’s renewal, which will for the first time be held at the weekend.

For the first time in its 148year history, the agricultural event is switching from a Monday to Saturday date – taking place this coming weekend at Franchis Farm, Wendron.

Staged entirely indoors with free entry, the attractions will be headlined by a quality entry of prime cattle and sheep – born and bred on local farms – together with sections for farm produce, floral art, home produce, craft, eggs, photography and much more.

A Helston Fatstock Show committee spokesperson said: “Everything is falling into place, with just people needed to create a great atmosphere and make this first Saturday show a success.”

“All are welcome to attend, particularly families with young children who will be provided with activities in the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) Discovery Barn to help learn about where our food comes from.”

In addition, there will be a range of craft and produce stalls for visitors to browse, selling a variety of products.

Businesses and individuals have generously donated a wide range of lots for a grand auction which will take place in the afternoon, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Cornwall Air Ambulance’s New Heli Appeal.

Doors will open at 10am and throughout the day (until 4pm) the domestic show entries will be on show, along with activities for children and freshly prepared food available to purchase.
