Infectious diseases complacency alert
A combination of antimicrobial resistance, complacency, austerity, climate change, and migration are increasing the risk of infectious diseases and pandemics. A debate was held last night on the 100th anniversary of the Spanish flu, which infected around 500 million people and killed up to 100 million. Some 150 senior academics, and healthcare professionals explored how the world could be prepared for future outbreaks.
