Knight is hoping wait for action does not extend any further

-

Captain Heather Knight believes England are under no extra pressure to beat ICC Women’s World Twenty20 group rivals Bangladesh in the West Indies today.

England were expected to win their opening game against Sri Lanka in St Lucia on Saturday, but both sides were awarded a point each after the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to torrential rain.

More rain is predicted and the possibility of another wash-out could add extra weight to England’s remaining group games against stronger opposition – South Africa and the defending champions, the West Indies.

“I think we’ll just be glad to get out there and play some cricket, and the fact that we must win is just by the by,” Plymouth’s Knight told the International Cricket Council’s official website.

“It’s tournament cricket, it’s such a short, sharp tournament, every game is important,” she added.

“You can’t afford to slip up for a short spell in T20 cricket or that’s going to lose you the game. We’ve got to beat every team to obviously get to where we want to be in those semifinals in Antigua.”

Unseasonal downpours meant no play was possible on Saturday at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.

England, striving to the add the Twenty20 title to their 50-over ICC World Cup win from last year, will try again at the same venue today.
