Rare breed of puppies melt hearts

Western Morning News - - News -

Looking more like baby polar bears than dogs, these rare Samoyed puppies are in their element with winter approaching.

The puppies were born near Yeovil in Somerset but are more at home in Siberia.

The Samoyed is a breed of large herding dog, from the spitz group, with a thick, white, double-layer coat.

It takes its name from the Samoyedic peoples of Siberia.

These nomadic reindeer herders bred the fluffy white dogs to help with the herding. An alternate name for the breed, especially in Europe, is Bjelkier.

The well-bred Samoyed is an intelligent, gentle, and loyal dog. He is friendly and affectionate with his family, including the children, and thrives on being part of household activity.
