Trouble for Albion as Moseley claim win

-

Plymouth Albion slipped closer towards the National League One trap door after suffering their fifth straight league defeat – losing 48-26 at Billesley Common against Moseley on Saturday.

The result saw Albion slip down to third from bottom in the table after they were leapfrogged by the hosts.

Albion trailed 7-0 in the opening minutes, before two more penalties increased the lead for Birmingham.

The visitors were then reduced to 14 men when Will Norton was shown a yellow card, and the home side took full advantage with another two tries to lead 27-0 with just 20 minutes played.

Albion regained some respectability when Cameron Setter crossed over the try line from a maul to give the visitors a glimmer of hope.

However, their hopes of further reducing the arrears suffered a blow as Matt Shepherd missed with the conversion attempt.

Plymouth cut the lead further when George Mills scored a try from a line-out, and this time Shepherd was successful with the conversion attempt.

A comeback seemed to be on when Shepherd then scored a converted try after breaking from the ten-metre line before taking the ball past a couple of challenges to cross the line.

However, Moseley hit back with a try to make it 34-19 before a fifth converted try took them further ahead, which was quickly followed by a sixth try to make it 48-19.

Ashley Crouch scored a try for Albion to cut the hosts’ lead, with Connor Eastgate adding the conversion to secure the bonus point, but apart from that it was too little, too late for the Brickfields outfit as they went down to a fifth straight defeat.
