PICK OF THE DAY SUPERMARKET SWEEP

AITV2, 8pm

S TV reboots go, surely no one can begrudge the return of this fun, frenzied 1990s game show that sees contestants “go wild in the aisles”?

Hosted by the late Dale Winton from 1993 to 2007, the show sees three teams of two race against the clock around a mock supermarket, looking for clues and items.

Host of the moment Rylan Clark-Neal is the perfect person to take on the reins. Always engaging, witty and not one to take himself too seriously, it’s no wonder

Rylan with his Colgate smile is getting all the TV jobs right now.

“If I can fill an inch of

Dale’s shoes I’ll be happy,” he says.

The format is much the same as it was, with classic quizzes, trolley dashes and unflattering pastel jumpers. But there are new additions to watch out for, too.

Corrie favourite Jennie McAlpine is sitting in the booth on the Tannoy – another good casting decision.

The show is apparently doing its bit for community, too. All the food is real and Rylan has revealed that every few days it’s all donated to food banks.

He joked: “I haven’t been shopping for weeks. It’s fantastic. It’s real stuff, so I’m in hairspray for life.”

The contestants are like excitable puppies, with one saying that being on the show is achieving a “childhood dream”.

Viewers will enjoy the nostalgia just as much as them.

For anyone who bemoans that “TV is not what it used to be”, well, this one’s for you.
