Lowe tells Argyle squad to take heed

RYAN LOWE has told his Plymouth Argyle players that they must ‘listen and learn very quickly’ – or they will find themselves out of his team.

Lowe admitted that he was frustrated by the Pilgrims’ performance in the 2-2 League Two draw with Oldham Athletic at Home Park on Saturday.

It was a struggle from the start for Argyle, who were unable to find the fluency to their attacking play and went behind shortly before the half-hour mark.

Defender Scott Wootton equalised with a header in the 31st minute and the Pilgrims seemed set for victory when striker Byron Moore netted in the 74th minute.

However, Oldham drew level at 2-2 with a header by defender David Wheater from a corner in the 77th minute. The result leaves Argyle with a record of three wins, two draws and two defeats from seven League games this season, and in eighth position in the table.

“As I’ve said, it’s a work in progress,” said Lowe. “There are certain areas that certain players can do better, and that’s what we’ll ask them to do. Is it taking time? Well, you can’t have too much time because they’ll find themselves out the team, so they’ve got to listen and learn very quickly what we’re doing.

They’ve been outstanding for us from day one, I’ll always say that,” he added. “They’ve been brilliant, with their attitude, the commitment and the application to everything we do.

“Are they taking that extra touch? Are they not finding that killer pass? Are they going back safe too much?

“Yes, possibly at times, so there are a few things in there that we need to get better on, but the only way at getting better at that is on the training pitch and to keep working them.”

The Pilgrims’ boss continued: “I think we looked a little bit leggy also, to be fair. I think all the games have caught up with us now. So the lads will have a couple of days’ recovery time and we’ll make sure we get them right back at it for next week [away to Port Vale next Saturday].”
