SWW tackle town’s flood problems

-

SOUTH West Water was working to divert water away from a blocked sewage pipe after a serious flooding incident in East Devon.

Water that flows through the pipe – which SWW says was blocked “by a third party” – was in the process of being diverted when 14 mm of rain fell in a few hours on Monday, causing the pipe to swell and burst.

Stuart and Trish Grocutt who live in Mill Street, Ottery St Mary, could only watch as flood water rose in a matter of minutes and broke in through the front door of their home. The road was also flooded

Council highway teams soon discovered a blocked pipe was one of the factors that had caused the network to swell and burst.

Urgent repairs were to be carried out once it was safe, SWW said. The company has been working in the area since August.
