Remainers desperate to stop Brexit

-

YET another letter from Roger Porkess, yet another example of ‘Remain’ supporters either not bothering to read properly or deliberately misinterpreting those written with opposite views.

Ishbel Askew accused me of calling all Remainers ‘morons’, even though it was quite clear I was referring only to those who defaced our national flag.

Mr Porkess has totally ignored all the points that have been raised in these columns about whether the referendum was ‘advisory’ and ‘nonbinding’.

It has been pointed out on numerous occasions that referendums as they stand are ‘advisory’ and are therefore ‘nonbinding on a Government, but quite what that has to do with his claim that it caused voters not to know what they were voting for is puzzling.

However, as the Government said at the end of its decidedly proremain leaflet that it would abide by the referendum result and the majority of Parliament also agreed to do the same and then went ahead and triggered Article 50, one would assume that by definition Parliament has accepted the result as ‘binding’.

As for the rest of his claims over mismanagement by ‘Leave’, these have been bandied about for so long they have become boring; it has become quite apparent the ‘Remain’ side has never and will never accept the referendum result, and will do or say almost anything to stop ‘Brexit’ and they are currently using the ‘no-deal’ scenario as an excuse to do so.

Mr Porkess, if referendums are ‘advisory ‘ and are ‘non-binding on a Government or Parliament, why are the ‘Remain’ brigade screaming and shouting about having a second one, or will it only count if they win and what if they don’t, will they still not accept it?
