Yes, he should go but it’s time to move on

-

WITH ref to your question about the actions of Dominic Cummings in yesterday’s WMN, ‘Wotta Lotta Bull...’ probably sums up the feelings of the majority of the country after hearing his long winded attempt to justify his actions – and this is from someone who would normally support a Tory Government!

Had he sought and been granted permission to go, then perhaps there may have been a smattering of sympathy from the public for the position that he found himself, but his actions appear to show the arrogance of someone who has too much power and thinks himself as indispensable to the government and therefore un-sackable.

He has put the PM and his ministers in a very awkward position by trying to defend the indefensible right in the middle of a serious crisis.

That said, there is no doubt that the breaking of the news about this affair has an element of politics behind it.

He apparently is not liked by No10 staff, the Press or many MPs on all sides of the House, and it cannot be a coincidence that this story was reported to, and taken up by, two left wing newspapers, the Daily Mirror and The Guardian.

The fact that one of the reports to those newspapers came from someone who claimed to have seen Cummings walking with his family rather leaves a nasty taste in one’s mouth that this sort of reporting was only supposed to be prevalent in countries that had much less freedom from authority than ourselves.

Should he resign or be sacked? Yes, without question.

No doubt he thought he was doing the best for his family but there are hundreds of people who are in the same position and unable to see their loved ones, neither could they run away to a holiday home to ‘selfisolate; he who helps to make the rules must also abide by them.

However, it’s not the first or the last time someone in Government has made an ass of themselves, so now everyone has had their say, it’s probably time to move on and try and rid ourselves of this terrible virus.
