Road closures must consider accessibility

-

I CAUTIOUSLY welcome the road closures in Bristol city centre to provide a more peaceful environment for pedestrians and cyclists. However, I would hope that any further closures will give greater consideration to accessibility for less able citizens of Bristol.

Keeping the city centre’s air clean must not come at their expense.

The enforcement of this new system, certainly around Bristol Bridge, also requires more consistency.

Strategically minded road closures in the city centre have the potential to give local businesses a muchneeded boost post-Covid lockdown.

However, the upcoming lengthy closure to the Redcliffe Bascule Bridge will present an obstacle to the flow of pedestrian and cycle traffic in the area.

In light of this I would advise that Bristol City Council look into revisiting the project of a bridge from King Street and across the Harbour in Welsh Back. This project could change the layout of the centre in a way that would be beneficial to local residents and businesses on Kings Street.

Zachary Barker Liberal Democrat Council Candidate for Central Ward, Bristol may say but basic common sense if humans now and in the future are to survive in a free, healthy, safe and, yes, wealthy society for all, no matter how difficult this may be.

We are all part of this as partners and must contribute wherever we live, or what we do in our lives, in or out of work.
