Millbrook bow out of the FA Vase

-

MILLBROOK’S glorious adventure in this season’s FA Vase came to an end, despite their gallant comeback at United Services Portsmouth, writes Stuart James.

It was just the third time that the Cornish club had entered the Vase and the first time they had gone this far with their 2-0 win over Bashley at Jenkins Park last week largely considered the best result in their history.

However, US Portsmouth proved just too good on the day as they stormed into a 3-0 lead before Millbrook’s late fightback.

Millbrook found themselves trailing after just 16 seconds when they conceded a penalty before two second half goals sealed their fate. Rikki Shepherd bagged both Millbrook goals in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, it was a day of frustration for our local clubs with the weather forcing postponements on both sides of the Tamar.

Falmouth saw their clash at Christchurch postponed and they now have to travel to Dorset on Sunday, December 27 for the rearranged fixture.

The Devon derby between Buckland Athletic and Tavisock at Homers Heath also fell victim to the weather and will be replayed at 1pm on Boxing Day.

That means the Western League Devon derbies between Tavi and Plymouth Parkway and Exmouth v Buckland will have to be rescheduled in the New Year.

There was no such luck for Plymouth Parkway either as their game with Fareham Town was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The rescheduled game will take place at Bolitho Park on Sunday, December 27 with their league clash against Clevedon, due to be played on the 28th, likely to now be played on December 30.
