Weather warning issued – until Christmas Eve

-

THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for tomorrow and Christmas Eve, warning of potential floods and disruption across the region as a result.

The Exeter-based forecaster issued an alert yesterday, saying the downpour will affect most of southern England, and southern parts of Wales.

The weather warning is in place from 6am tomorrow until 6am Thursday, with a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings, as well as chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater – causing hazardous conditions.

The Met Office said the rainfall could lead to difficult driving conditions on the roads, as well as some communities becoming cut off.

The warning comes after an amber weather warning for rain was issued on Friday last week. Heavy rain caused major flooding in Cornwall over the weekend – and landslides that forced the closure of the Eden Project.

A number of amber flood alerts remain in place across Devon and Cornwall for the following areas: The Lower River Tamar, Middle Exe Area, Middle River Tamar, River Axe area, River Fowey, River Lynher, River Plym and Tory Brook, Rivers Looe and Seaton, River Teign area, River Yealm, Upper River Tamar, West Somerset Streams, River Fowey and West Cornwall Rivers.
