Why did the seal go to the bus stop?

-

A SEAL pup that left the sea and went ‘walk about’ was rescued after being spotted waiting at a bus stop in Cornwall.

The mammal, believed to be just a few weeks old, had crossed a main road after fleeing a harbour and was found by a group of children waiting for the school bus.

Witness Lisa Cadman said she spotted the pup while dropping her daughter off at the stop in Porthleven.

She called her husband, Simon, an officer with the Cornwall Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority. Simon joked: “It was trying to catch a bus to Godrevy I think.”

He contacted the British Divers Marine Life Rescue and one of its members, who lives nearby, went to rescue the seal.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek were also contacted. Simon managed to gently get the seal into a bag with the help of another man at the scene.

Staff from the seal sanctuary and British Divers Marine Life Rescue then took over. The seal was checked over and given a clean bill of health, before being taken away in a van and released into the calmer waters of Mounts Bay, near Penzance. It is thought it got out of the water during stormy conditions.
