Missing man – body on rocks

A MAN’S body was found by search and rescue teams looking for a missing person in South Devon on Sunday.

Coastguard teams from Bigbury and Prawle were searching for a man at Bigbury-On-Sea and Burgh Island on Sunday afternoon.

Sadly, the search teams found a man’s body.

Police said they had received a report of concern for the welfare of a man at Bigbury-on-Sea at around 2pm on Sunday when officers assisted the coastguard in a search. His body was found by coastguard­s on rocks at around 3.40pm.

“The man’s next-of-kin are aware, formal identifica­tion is yet to take place. His death is not being treated as suspicious,” police said. “A file is being prepared for the coroner.”

HM Coastguard Area Commander for South Devon & South-East Cornwall Drew Parkinson said it had been a

“busy weekend for coastguard­s in the South Hams”.

On Friday, Bigbury and Prawle Point Coastguard Teams spent ten hours dealing with flooding incidents, until 3.30am on Saturday morning.

On Sunday, the same teams were called in to search for the missing person who was found deceased.
