Groundsman is killed in accident

A GROUNDSMAN has died after lighting equipment fell on him at the stadium of French football team Lorient.

The accident occurred shortly after Rennes beat Lorient 3-0 at Stade du Moustoir in north-west France on Sunday evening.

The equipment is used to heat the pitch and is wheeled in and out of the ground between games. The city’s mayor said police have begun an investigation into how the accident occurred.

Several Lorient players were reportedly still by the pitch.
