BBC should be a subscription channel

-

I WAS mildly taken aback on first reading of Jeremy Hall’s letter, however giving the letter a more serious read I have to say, to me it was very amusing and that I AM INNOCENT!

Mr Hall accuses me of many things so I would like to clear up a few. If my letter regarding the BBC was vehement what on earth was Mr Hall’s? He attacks me left right and centre and at the end of his letter says: “Even in our Brexit world we must accept that other people have the right to disagree.”

Really? in that case he should practice that which he preaches! He also gives away his absolute opposition to Brexit, believing me to be a gullible mouthpiece of, among others, Rupert Murdoch, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage – how sad.

The fact that his knowledge of television today and in the years gone by is sadly lacking is a worry to me, he doesn’t know that Fox News isn’t available on the viewing platform so many of us prefer to use and of the comedy programmes he thinks I would recommend – he includes two that were only radio based.

I am quite happy to be a subscriber to the Sky platform, with so many channels including the BBC to choose from, although I will only be watching Match of the Day, recorded by myself so I can fast forward every time ‘man of the people’ Gary Lineker puts in an appearance.

So, in that respect I find myself in agreement with 15% of those polled who said they would be watching five hours or less over the Christmas period and I also find myself to be one of the 40% who want the BBC to become a Sky-style subscriptions channel, as against the 37% who wish it to continue as an imposed licence fee system.

I wouldn’t really want to watch an Irishman dressed up as a woman in a very offensive ‘comedy,’ nor do I trust an organisation that finds the missing handwritten letter it says exonerates Martin Bashir of any wrong-doing 25 years after stating the letter was lost, how convenient, just as the demand for a public inquiry into Mr Bashir’s conduct grows.

Anyone in this country can watch any subscriber television system they wish, be it Sky, Disney, BT, Amazon or Netflix, if they wish to pay for it. However, unfortunately you have to pay for the BBC even if you don’t watch it. Looking at the listings for the Christmas/New Year period, my own edited version of Match of the Day seems to be the only worthwhile item of interest to me on the BBC.
