Grecians test players due to a Covid scare

-

EXETER City’s planned behind-closed-doors friendly with Tiverton Town on Monday evening had to be cancelled as a precaution after a Grecians player developed Covid-19 symptoms over the weekend.

Having seen their planned League Two trip to Stevenage on Saturday postponed due to players the Boro testing positive, City were due to face their Devon rivals on Monday night at the Cliff Hill training ground.

But after one player displayed symptoms over the weekend, the friendly has been cancelled and all City players and staff were Covid- tested yesterday as a precaution.

Manager Matt Taylor said: “This is a sensible precautionary measure whilst test results are awaited. For everyone concerned we don’t wish or need to take any chances.”

Both Tom Parkes and Jonny Maxted have previously tested positive for Covid-19 back in May in the run-up to last season’s playoffs, before Harry Kite tested positive in November.

If a positive test is returned and the players are forced into self-isolation for ten days, then the Boxing Day clash with Forest Green Rovers and the trip to Newport County on December 29 could be postponed.

The club have confirmed they will provide an update when test results are back.
