AHUGE floating Christmas tree made from 1,000 lights is brightening up Falmouth Harbour.

The 10m (33ft) tree has been moored at Fish Strand Quay to bring some festive cheer to the town after a difficult year.

The pontoon was built by Penryn company WorkFloat, using its ScaffFloat product.

Managing director Toby Budd said: “We just thought it would be a nice thing to do, and we’ve had some lovely feedback on social media from people saying thank you, so I am glad we made the effort.

“After all, if Mousehole can do it then surely Falmouth can do better.

“I have already had some local businesses asking if they can sponsor one for next year, so, you never know, we could end up with a floating forest of lights in the harbour – not what we had in mind but something that would be great for Falmouth and the town centre if it went ahead.”

The display was made possible by local businesses that chipped in to help. Five West and Five Bellow provided the 26 strings of LED lights, Metalcraft the 1m-wide star, Greenstone Landscaping the wire stays and Falmouth Haven the moorings.

Richard Gates, Falmouth town manager, said: “The floating Christmas tree in the harbour provided and installed by ScaffFloat is a great addition to the festive lights across the town.

“It is much appreciated that Toby and the team at ScaffFloat have given their time, energy and sponsorship to make this work.

“Thanks also to Falmouth Harbour Commissioners for agreeing the location and the install.”
