Cake contest raises farms cash

-

A VIRTUAL Christmas cake competition organised by Devon’s Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) has raised over £200 for the charity.

Bakers were asked to make a donation of at least £2 to the dedicated Just Giving page, before sending a copy of their traditional Christmas cake recipe, photos of the baked (undecorated) and finished cake.

The judging panel, which included Radio Devon presenters David Fitzgerald and Pippa Quelch, were unanimous in choosing the winner - Anita Pearce from Monkokehampton.

A past member of Clawton Young Farmers’ Club (YFC) and now the club leader of Winkleigh YFC, Anita’s recipe

was the same one used when making her wedding cake 21 years ago. Second place was awarded to Helen Butland from Buckland Monachorum, by Becky Horton from Milton Abbot in third, and Mark Jeffery of Wiltshire NFU fourth.
