BLACK NARCISSUS

BBC1, 9pm

-

THIS new mini-series started last night, so make sure you’ve watched episode one before tuning in, or else it won’t make any sense.

We’re in the Himalayas in 1934, where Sister Clodagh (Gemma Arterton) is in charge of a gang of nuns setting up a mission in an old palace, where sinister and spooky things happened – and seem to be happening again. As Clodagh says: “This is an unusual place, we should expect unusual things.”

Like a young nun channelling the spirit of a dead princess and turning evil. Or the saintly Clodagh having flashbacks to her more carnal past, and finding her passions being stirred by Mr Dean.

It’s not quite Captain Von Trapp and Fraulein Maria energy, but it could definitely get there – presuming everyone stays alive.
