So much more to the WI than many realise

-

I FELT the urge to write a letter on reading the activities of Lawrence

WI. We are a small institute of about 20 members at Christow, near

Exeter.

As with the ladies from Somerset, we collected gifts of toiletries, etc, which were sent to the Women’s Refuge in Barnstaple. The committee also packed little gift bags of home baked goodies, Christmas word search and poem to distribute to the members.

I feel there have been friendships developed during this past difficult year, it has been a time of striking up a conversation with passers-by in the village, going that extra mile to give support to others – some of whom may be alone – and in so doing, much reward is gained from the gesture.

A small group of our members met in a garage for tea and chat, an effort has been made to keep in touch and we long for the time when we can all meet again.

There is so much more to the WI than the reputation with which it is sometimes labelled.
