Devon Covid death

A HOSPITAL patient in Devon who tested positive for coronaviru­s died on New Year’s Day, NHS England has revealed.

The latest figures, published yesterday and taking into account deaths reported in the 24 hours up to 4pm on January 2, show one death was confirmed across Devon and Cornwall’s hospitals. It was recorded at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and happened on January 1. This brings the total of deaths of patients with coronaviru­s at the hospital to 161.

The latest death in Exeter was among a further 386 confirmed by NHS England in the figures released yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 51,437.

A spokespers­on for NHS England said: “Patients were aged between 30 and 107 years old. All except 18 (aged 59 to 95 years old) had known underlying health conditions. Date of death ranges from 6 December 2020 to 2 January 2021 with the majority being on or after 29 December. Their families have been informed.”
