What will be the final true cost of Brexit?

-

I WONDER if we will ever know the true cost of Brexit? The many billions of pounds spent getting to this point will be lost in the horrendous cost of this terrible coronavirus.

We do know that many billions have been spent on the huge task of planning for deal or no deal.

We do know that there will be ongoing costs of new customs procedures and inevitable border delays/costs of setting up and manning customs posts (latest estimates are in excess of £7 billion annually).

The CEO of Tesco has stated that food price increases won’t be huge. But that’s still an increase, and hardly a benefit of Brexit.

The cost of Brexit goes on and on – and not just financial costs.

The only benefit so far is claimed to be regaining our so called freedom.

We await the benefits of the new “promised land”, when the very many billions of pounds wasted so far, we are assured, will prove worthwhile.

In my view, we have the classic lose/lose situation. Both Europe and ourselves are now worse off.

The only winners are the hard right wing of the Tory Party, Nigel Farrage, and Messrs Putin and Trump, both of whom want a divided, weakened Europe. Job done!
