Sovereignty to me was pure and simple
THE contributors from Sidmouth asked “what does sovereignty mean in the 21st Century?”
According to Wikipedia, “sovereignty is the full right and power of a governing body over itself, without any interference from outside sources or bodies.”
This is what Brexit was all about to me, pure and simple.
It may come as a surprise to those Sidmouth contributors that pre-EU, the opportunities they sang their praises about were also available then!
Like Mrs Earl, I also regret the loss of lbs and ozs, gallons, etc.
Whenever I buy a second hand car, I fill the tank and check what the economy is after converting to imperial. My first fuel purchase was at 4s/6d per gallon (22.5 pence x 4.54 litres?), when after we went metric fuel rose to £1 per gallon – there was rioting on the streets. Now at times we have paid nearer to £6 per gallon without the rioting, as the younger generation were only taught metric so the figures mean little to them.
One thing I know is that for big business, any change is an excuse to put up prices – legitimate or not. Mike Butterfield
