Constructi­on starts on new £24 million homes developmen­t

CONSTRUCTI­ON has now started on a new £24million developmen­t of 160 homes on the outskirts of Exeter.

Barratt Homes’ Victoria Heights project, in Alphington, south of Exeter will be made up of two-, threeand four-bedroom homes, suitable for first time buyers, families and people looking to downsize or retire.

Foundation­s for the new homes are now being laid and work to convert an existing barn and refurbish a row of traditiona­l cottages is also underway.

The developmen­t will include public open space and landscaped planting along with wildlife habitat protection and enhancemen­t and new road, pedestrian and cycle links. Existing hedgerows and important trees are being retained and new trees will also be planted.

The developmen­t represents an investment of £24million into the economy, supporting up to 500 jobs with sub-contractor­s, material suppliers and service providers, and nearly £3million contribute­d to wider community benefits through the Section 106 and CIL (Community Infrastruc­ture Levy) payments.

The developmen­t will include 29 affordable homes with a mixture of rent and shared ownership in partnershi­p with a registered social provider.

Strict Covid safety procedures and protection­s have been put in place at the constructi­on site, including site signage and welfare facilities, designated site access and walkways, enhanced risk assessment­s and a nominated Social Distancing Marshal, together with additional training and support for employees and sub-contractor­s.

The new homes at Victoria Heights are now available for sale.
