Warning of freezing conditions

-

SNOW covered high ground on Dartmoor yesterday as temperatures are set to dramatically drop.

Blankets of thick snow were captured on camera yesterday morning at Great Links Tor by Mark Shackleton.

It comes after the Exeter-based Met Office issued a weather warning for ice and snow. The warning was due to become active at 5pm yesterday as a cold conditions sweep the UK with temperatures forecast to drop to -4 degrees C in the South West.

In the update, the Met Office said that it now expects snow to also cause disruption across the region, with the warning also extended to last until midnight tonight.

Experts from the University of Exeter have also said there is an increased chance of extreme cold, and potentially snow, over the next week or two. According to the UoE website, the study which is being led by Dr Richard Hall, reveals that a dramatic meteorological event, known as a sudden stratospheric warming (SSW), is currently unfolding high over the Arctic – a similar occurrence linked to the infamous 2018 ‘Beast from the East’ which covered the UK in swathes of snow.
