Spinning a web of deceit for rescuers

-

A COASTGUARD team was called out in the early hours but it wasn’t an emergency – not even an incy wincy one.

Somerset’s Weston-super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team was ready to spin into action after getting the alert from their operation room at 3.19am.

The rescue team station alarm sensors had been triggered by what was revealed to be... an elaborately woven spider’s web.

A Weston-super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson said in a Facebook post: “It turns out a spider had been busy during the early hours and its web had triggered one of the motion sensors! At least they work, albeit a little sensitive!”

The police were in attendance at the scene, as well as the Coastguard Rescue Team’s station officer.

The web was cleared and the alarm was set and tested.

The spokesperson wrote: “We all got the message so we were ready to go if needed. At least on this occasion no one was in need of our services and we could all sit back and have a good chuckle about it.”

This was the team’s third call out of 2021 so far.

The Weston-Super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team consists of 12 volunteers trained in search, mud, water and rope rescue.
