Need to get priorities right on hunting
THERE is no better example of ‘bathos’ is needed than that of
Alan Kirby in his letter (January 9) comparing the horrendous happenings in the USA to the 16-year-old Hunting Act – he surely needs to examine his priorities most urgently.
Even back when the Act was debated, the honourable members saw fit to spent 700 hours on the issue but could only manage seven hours on the war in Iraq, a conflict which cost the lives of some 450,000 including children. A very strange set of priorities.
Readers may infer that I am against any further time being wasted on this issue when so many more important matters of concern are not being addressed.
Climate change could extinguish vast swathes of wildlife if it has not already done so, plastic pollution is increasing to an unprecedented level with all the suffering it causes, destruction of habitat, carnage caused by the motor car – need I go on? It must be the case that we all examine our own activities and take action, instead of interminably holding others to blame, so we can hand on a sustainable planet to our children.
