Man held on suspicion of murder

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of an elderly woman.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were alerted by the ambulance service to “concerns for the welfare” of a resident at a property in Bideford.

When the emergency services arrived at the address in JH Taylor Drive in Northam, they found the body of a woman in her 80s.

A force spokesman said: “Inquiries remain ongoing to identify and inform next of kin. Formal identification is yet to take place.

“Following initial inquiries, the death is currently being treated as suspicious.

“A 35-year-old man from Bideford has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.”
