NOT GOING OUT

BBC1, 9.30pm

-

HOT on the heels of the New Year’s Eve special, this suddenly appropriately titled sitcom returns, starring Lee Mack and Sally Bretton.

It’s Lee and Lucy’s tenth wedding anniversary and they’re off to a pub quiz with mates Anna (Abigail Cruttenden) and Toby (Hugh Dennis).

Lucy wants “a relaxing and casual night”, which of course it isn’t remotely, proving highly competitive within minutes.

It gets off to a bad start when Lucy claims Toby is their team’s secret weapon, leaving Anna and Lee hugely offended.

They decide to split into two teams to prove who is cleverest. They don’t want to win the grand prize of a yard of Twix – they just want to beat their other halves.

“It’s my wedding anniversary, please help me crush my wife,” says Lee to Anna. And who said romance was dead.

As always, this is packed full of witty one-liners, including a marvellous jab from Anna about everything ITV has to offer.
