Would break-up of 4 nations be so bad?
I SEE that Gavin Esler the ex-presenter of BBC 24, BBC Newsnight and failed Change UK candidate in the European Parliamentary elections of 2019 now has a new book to sell and has visited various Sunday newspapers.
The book is called How Britain Ends – English Nationalism and the Rebirth of Four Nations (yes, I know, what an extremely long book title!)
Gavin Esler tells us that he’s “... coming to believe that the breakup of the UK is inevitable – driven by the simmering rage of English nationalism.”
This is of course the usual rhetoric used by Scottish Nationalists, Welsh Nationalists and those in Northern Ireland who wish to see the island become one country. Reading through both of his contributions to Sunday newspapers, he doesn’t once give any meaningful explanation for his words which start both articles.
He states that ‘if’ Wales wishes to stick with some sort of a union with England, then that’s up to them!
So that means, as usual, we the English must not have a say about the United Kingdom’s future, using the Nationalist mindset, our English wishes don’t matter, our views are of no consequence when deciding these matters.
How ridiculous, there is this feeling in Scotland and Northern Ireland that any problems or woes that befall them are all the fault of the wicked English and they feel free to verbally and in some Scottish areas physically attack us at will.
Being proud to be English, I would be quite happy to see Scotland and Northern Ireland ‘pull the plug’ on us. I have a sneaking feeling that we and the people of Wales would do very well on our own, so please let’s have that referendum and extend it to the entire United Kingdom.
