Grant is proving his worth

-

RYAN Lowe wants Conor Grant to continue proving he is one of the best players at Plymouth Argyle.

Whether it has been in central midfield or left wing-back, Grant has had a fine season for the Pilgrims so far.

The 25-year-old has been a first team regular for the first time since he signed for Argyle from Everton in the summer of 2018.

Grant has been used at wing-back recently in the absence of the injured George Cooper.

However, Adam Lewis has been brought in on loan by Lowe from Liverpool to compete for that position.

Lewis, 21, made his debut as a second half substitute in the 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra at Home Park on Monday.

He took up the left wing-back role with Grant moving into central midfield after Danny Mayor suffered a knock.

Lowe said: “Conor has been fantastic. He told me at the start of the season he wanted to be one of the best players and he’s certainly living up to that.

“I didn’t want no talk, because talk is cheap, I wanted actions and he’s doing that. He has been fantastic in and around the place.

“We know Conor can play at left wingback, the eight position and the number four position (midfield holding role). He has got plenty.

“We want our players to keep challenging each other, and that’s what Adam will have to do now. He will have to challenge Conor.

“At the moment, Conor has been fantastic and I just want that to continue.”

Lewis only had a short time on the pitch against Crewe but Lowe was encouraged by what he saw from him. “He’s a good footballer. He played little one-twos around the corner - I don’t know whether he thought he was playing with (Mo) Salah and (Sadio) Mane at one point!” Lowe said.
