G7 brings bookings boost
CORNWALL is witnessing a surge of bookings for the summer, following news that the leaders of the G7 nations are to attend their summit at Carbis Bay in June.
Ian Londesborough, founder of booking site Cornwall Direct, said bookings were up by 20% compared to this time last year – before the pandemic struck.
“Cornwall is a staycation spot,” Mr Londesborough said. “Hopefully later in the year, once the coronavirus vaccine has worked its wonders, more people come to the South West.
“Like for like, since this time last year, we’ve had a 20% boost in the number of bookings on our site.
“As well as the vaccine giving people hope, G7 has given us a boost. It’s remarkable, fantastic news. It’s boosted our profile and boosted Cornwall.”
Carbis Bay Hotel, which is hosting world leaders when the summit comes to Cornwall, has rooms for two adults on June 4 to 6 at £640. After the summit weekend of June 11 to 13, when it is sold out, the cheapest rooms are upwards of £700.
Other hotels and inns in the Carbis Bay, St Ives, and Hayle area are experiencing a similar surge.
