Wrexham’s strange story has the makings of a Hollywood film

-

WORK this one out. Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are actually buying Wrexham.

Contracts have been exchanged and the deal is currently awaiting approval from the financial conduct authority.

I know in our nature as human beings we are cynical, and even more so in football, but wouldn’t it be absolutely fantastic if they were/ are just in it for the adventure, to see where they can take what definitely is a sleeping giant of a club?

Rob McElhenney has already endeared himself into the hearts of the Wrexham fans by donating £6,000 to adapt an avid fans home, this to help with the management of his cerebral palsy. What a gesture.

Both Ryan and Rob have also spoken to Dean Keates, the Wrexham manager, about their plans. I know ‘Keatsy’ really well and he will definitely have been laughing to himself at the surreal nature of the situation, but why shouldn’t it be successful? Why can’t they want the best for the club and its supporters?

There surely must be a film in here somewhere but, for now, let’s just enjoy the ride from afar.

One thing for sure is that both actors will need to have deep pockets to run a football club. By watching plenty of both of their films on Netfilx over several lockdowns, the Hargreaves family for one have gone a little way to further swelling their funds, but as long as they keep making films, with a net worth of around £150 million pounds between them, they will be able to last as football owners for at least a couple of seasons.
