Grecians reject bid for winger Randall

EXETER City have rejected two bids from League One promotion hopefuls Charlton Athletic for winger Joel Randall, Addicks boss Lee Bowyer has said.

After Charlton were beaten 2-1 at Peterborough on Tuesday night, Bowyer told London News Online that they had bids for the 21-year-old rejected by the Grecians.

It is understood the bids were in the region of £300,000, but Bowyer said that the price that the Grecians were asking for was ‘around a million and out of their price range’.

The Addicks boss said: “We’ve made two bids for him but I don’t think he’s going to be in our price range, from what I hear.

“He’s a good, young player. But he’s only played about 15 games in League Two in his career. He wouldn’t be for now, he’d be a project for the future. From what I understand, what they’re asking for would be out of our price range.

“Yes, something like that around a million but I think that’s a lot of money for someone who’s played 14-16 games in League Two. That’s a lot of money for someone that’s done that. But I like him, I think he’s a good player.”

Randall has scored eight goals in 27 games for the Grecians this season, although hasn’t found the net since late November.

Earlier this month Exeter boss Matt Taylor dismissed speculation linking Randall with a move away from St James Park after speculation that Scottish giants Celtic and Championship promotion hopefuls Swansea City were poised to pounce for the Grecians Academy product.

At the time, Taylor had said. “We have had nothing from those clubs and I am not sure where those stories have come from, whether it is agent talk, or clubs releasing bits and pieces.”

But it appears that subsequently bids have been made and rejected for the player.
