Flood warnings are lifted as rain moves away from West

-

FLOOD waters were subsiding across the Westcountry yesterday, after overnight rain on Wednesday caused river levels to surge.

A series of flood warnings in place early yesterday were lifted by the evening, leaving one in place for the River Clyst from Broadclyst to Clyst St Mary and six flood alerts still in operation. In all, 15 warnings for the region were lifted over 24 hours, after the rain gave way to brighter, colder conditions yesterday.

Those alerts still in place late yesterday were for the Barnstaple, Braunton, Ilfracombe and Combe Martin areas, the Lower Exe, Middle Exe, Clyst and Culm, the Upper Tamar and the West Somerset rivers. Earlier, residents living along the River Yarty between Yarcombe and Axminster and those alongside the River Axe in Axminster were urged to be wary.
