Police stop visitors 200 miles from home

POLICE pulled over visitors who had travelled more than 200 miles to spend a few days in Plymouth.

Officers said the occupants of the car admitted they were trying to “escape the restrictio­ns” up country.

The crew from Plymouth D Section response shared details of their encounter on Twitter. The people in the car said they were

“cruising at midnight” and came early to “be by the ocean”.

They were given a fine for breaching Covid-19 rules in the car, which was registered to Milton Keynes and insured by a London driver.

The police wrote: “Car stopped overnight registered to Milton Keynes & insured in London. Driver’s account for being in the city for the last few days & cruising at midnight – wanted to escape the restrictio­ns of London and be by the ocean (...& to buy Doritos) Ticketed #Expensiven­achos #Stayhome.”

The stop came on a weekend when police were called to numerous areas to check whether people were complying with Covid-19 regulation­s.
