A: "It must be after four," said Susan, shaking her watch. "This thing has stopped."

Jim smiled. "So you want to know the time, eh?" he commented. "Well, it's twice as many minutes after four as it would be if it were twice as many minutes before five as it is."

What an answer for a hot summer afternoon! What was the time?

B: Anne held up a piece of paper. "Do you want this?" she asked her husband. "It only has four numbers on it, nothing special, except that they re perfect squares." "The squares of the ages of our kids and my parents," Fred replied. "The biggest is the sum of the other three numbers. If you divide it by the smallest, you get another perfect square, and the quotient of the third divided by the second is also a perfect square. Finally, the difference between those quotients is 240, the number of our house."

Coincidences! What were the ages?
