Racist abuse aimed at mayor

POLICE are treating racist abuse against Penzance’s mayor as a hate crime.

Online attacks were directed at Cllr Nicole Broadhurst and an abusive phone call made to the town council offices on January 7.

They came after a number of flags were erected on Penzance promenade without permission, and the mayor said they would have to be removed. Since then, the mayor, who is a black woman, has had a panic alarm installed by police after thugs turned up at her house at night.
