Mural brightens Covid hospital

-

A DEVON artist has boosted morale at Exeter’s Nightingale hospital by creating an eye-catching tribute to the NHS.

The artist LP Edits posts his colourful creations on the online site Instagram and was contacted by an NHS worker hoping he would create one of his distinctive designs for the Exeter Nightingale Hospital.

The hospital facility has been built to provide care for patients with coronavirus symptoms and has no windows and many blank walls. The mural is located in a corridor close to where staff take their breaks.

LP said the artwork, which shows an NHS worker flexing their muscles in an homage to the iconic wartime posters, took him three and a half hours to create.

He said: “It was quite a tricky one to do because I didn’t have much space because, obviously, I had to completely seal myself off from the actual hospital itself with a massive sheet [to be Covid-safe] – it was an experience.

“Because those guys are doing huge, long shifts, and what they’re doing is really quite mentally straining, I wanted to try and empower them a little bit with the image.”

LP, who has murals in Exeter on the side of the Phoenix building and Bowling Green pub, added: “It was an absolute honour to be asked.”
