Giving us an art attack

-

TAKING on unlikely challenges and delving into unknown worlds, comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are back for more chaos.

This time they dip their toes into the art world, heading to art galleries before testing their skills at a top art school and finally having to present their own exhibition – in front of a crowd of art fans – at the world famous Saatchi Gallery.

Rob has never even been to an art gallery before, but reckons on his own artistic skills.

“If someone did the stencils for me I could be Banksy,” he says. “It’s just a bit of spraying isn’t it? I think this will be the easiest challenge we’ve done.”

Famous last words of course. The pair get revved up, convinced they could be artists, but Romesh is sceptical once they visit The National Gallery.

Rob seems to be more interested in the ceiling. “I wouldn’t walk through here just looking up,” suggests Romesh.

But Rob is undeterred. “I think the art community is going to accept me as a breath of fresh air,” he says. “I could be the start of a new wave of artists.”

Artist and critic Lachlan Goudie takes the boys on a tour of the gallery, followed by a modern gallery, where he tells them they’ll need to “create a work of art that’s going to knock people’s socks off”. The boys head off to art school to figure out a game plan.

And the results are… well, let’s just say… like nothing the art world has ever seen before.
