NOT GOING OUT

-

BBC1, 8.05pm

THE doorbell goes in the middle of the night and the inlaws are there, itinerary in hand.

It’s 3.50am, 10 minutes before the family’s scheduled departure to visit war graves in Normandy. But the alarm didn’t go off.

Cue the usual bickering and chaos as Lee (Lee Mack),

Lucy (Sally Bretton) and Lee’s dad Frank (Bobby Ball) try to rally. Lucy’s parents Geoffrey and Wendy, played by Geoffrey Whitehead and Deborah Grant, are ready and waiting, but there are arguments over how to leave the curtains and wasting the milk left in the fridge.

Frank gets D-Day mixed up with scenes from Game of Thrones, then a quibble on Wendy’s passport unearths a piece of family history that is best left buried.

How old is she exactly? “Shall we cut her open and count the rings?” asks Lee.

Watch out for a final tribute to the late Bobby Ball.
