CASES of coronavirus in Cornwall continue to show a reduction, as the number of infections per 100,000 people has fallen to 124.3.

A comparison of week-on-week data reveals that Cornwall has seen 309 cases less during the last week of records, totalling 711, than the previous week, equating to a drop of 30.3%.

The rate per 100,000, for the week ending February 1, compares to a national figure of 228 per 100,000.

All but five areas of Cornwall now have under 20 cases, with Lostwithiel and Penwithick (40 cases), Bodmin East (29 cases), Truro West (23 cases), Altarnun and Stoke Climsland (22 cases) and Helston (21 cases) the five areas above 20.

Nine areas of Cornwall now report less than three cases, which means they are not classified as a coronavirus cluster.

Bodmin continues to be the town with the most number of cases in Cornwall, although 48 cases in the town represents a significant fall compared to previous weeks where at one point cases were around 100. The city of Truro also currently has 48 cases, split across three areas with Truro West reporting 23 cases, Truro East reporting 13 cases and Truro South and Central also reporting 12 cases.

In Devon the latest coronavirus cluster information reveals that while the vast majority of areas continue to see cases fall, one part of the county is currently seeing a spike in cases.

Areas under the authority of Devon County Council, which covers all of Devon except Plymouth and Torbay, continue to have the lowest rate of coronavirus infection in England, with a case rate of 70 infections per 100,000 people. The seven day total up to February 1 currently stands at 562, a reduction of 284 cases compared to the previous week. Meanwhile, in Torbay, cases have started to sneak up again while Devon, Plymouth and Cornwall have reduced, with an increase of 32 cases compared to the previous week. The current total is 238 and a case rate for Torbay of 174.7 infections per 100,000 people is currently the highest in Devon and Cornwall.

Areas in Torbay also form three of the top five parts of Devon with the largest amount of cases, with Shiphay and the Willows reporting 29 cases, Ellacombe with 26 cases and Blatchcombe and Blagdon with 22 cases.

A total of 36 areas of Devon report under three cases, meaning they are not classified as coronavirus clusters as the Government do not give totals for areas where there are between zero and two cases in order to protect the identity of individuals infected with the disease.

Some 58 areas of Devon report under ten cases and 29 areas have more than ten cases in the latest data which covers the week of January 26 to February 1.

The ten areas with the most infections at present are Shiphay and the Willows (29 cases), Ellacombe (26 cases), Kilmington, Colyton and Uplyme (25 cases), Blatchcombe and Blagdon (22 cases), Willand, Sampford Peverell and Halberton (21 cases), Clyst, Exton and Lympstone (20 cases), Newton Abbot Town Centre (20 cases), Dawlish South (19 cases), Preston and Shorton (19 cases) and Tiverton East (17 cases).

The case rate per 100,000 for Plymouth stands at 102 per 100,000 under the latest figures, with Exeter recording a rate of 46 cases per 100,000 and MidDevon 123 cases.
