DESPITE living less than a mile from each other, identical Devon twins Josephine Bradford and Grace Bolt have had to celebrate their 90th birthday apart due to lockdown.
Until this year they had always spent birthdays together. This year, due to lockdown, the closest they were able to get to each other was a socially distanced wave.
Both Josephine and Grace, who live in Lapford, near Crediton, are very close and ring each other twice a day without fail.
They have both received their first coronavirus vaccinations but are continuing to shield at home until their next dose and when restrictions are lifted.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, the sisters would see each other every day which they miss terribly.
Grace’s daughter Lizzie drove Josephine to her house on their birthday so that they could at least see each other from afar.
She said: “Before lockdown they would spend every day together. This year has been their first ever birthday apart.
“They were able to wave to each other and exchanged cards. Last year mum wanted a big family get together to mark their 89th birthday so we hired Winkleigh Bowling Club where all the family came.
“This year they had planned to hire the village hall for afternoon tea with everybody but it hasn’t been possible because of lockdown.
“Although they can’t see each other, they ring daily. My mum rings in the morning and then my aunty rings later in the evening for a chat.
“They are very close.”
