Independence for Scotland regrettable
BORIS Johnson’s recent visit north of the border was to show he cared about Scotland, and to bolster the Union. With regard to the new UK/ EU deal, he told Scottish fishermen: “Be in no doubt that over the medium term, and much more the long term, the changes are very beneficial for Scottish fishing – a big increase in North Sea cod, in North Sea haddock, in just the next few years, a 25% increase in overall quota in just the next few years.” The actual increase over the next five years in the overall quota is not 25% but a meagre 8%, the increase in North Sea cod is 10%, and in North Sea haddock it is 6.6%. Scottish independence would be regrettable both for the Scots and for the rest of the United Kingdom, but a Prime Minister who cannot be trusted with the truth, sadly, only promotes that cause.
