Show cancelled again
CORNWALL’S Stithians Show has been cancelled for the second year running because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The one-day event, which was started in 1834, was only previously cancelled during the 20th century’s two World Wars and the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001.
Show secretary Jenna Payne said the cancellation was disappointing but insisted the event, due to take place in July, would come back better and stronger in 2022.
In the meantime, this year’s show, the biggest one-day agricultural show in Cornwall, will be held virtually.
Ms Payne said: “The organising committee are very disappointed to cancel Cornwall’s largest oneday agricultural show for a second successive year but felt there was little other option.
“We’re very excited about holding our first full virtual Stithians Show and hope that exhibitors from across many of our competitive sections will get involved.”
Last year, the show’s committee held a virtual photography competition.
