Sand gives up WWII secret
STORMY seas have exposed World War II coastal defences on Long Rock beach, near Penzance.
The anti-tank strips, known as Admiralty Scaffolding, emerged from the beach after days of strong wind and high tides shifted tons of sand.
In 1940, as Hitler worked on Operation Sea Lion, the planned invasion of Britain, huge efforts were made to strengthen coastal defences all along the south coast, as far west as Cornwall, against landing craft and tanks.
