Fury at harbour webcam blackout

-

AT least one fan of a famous Cornish harbour has threatened to break lockdown rules and drive to see it after a webcam that shows views of the beauty spot was temporarily turned off.

Workers are currently at Charlestown Harbour carrying out repairs after a section of the historic harbour wall collapsed into the sea on Friday.

Since the works started, harbour officials say they needed to cover over the webcam, which can normally be viewed online by anyone.

Onlookers enjoying the views from home during lockdown were disappointed to lose sight of the harbour, used as a location in many historical TV dramas and films including Poldark and The Onedin Line.

One person went as far to say the decision would “alienate” locals and that, as a result, they wouldn’t be spending any money in the village when able to return.

Another claimed that “hundreds” of people were watching as a “part of Cornish history” was rebuilt and they deserved to not have that “taken away”.

A woman from Somerset joined the argument, saying the webcam and been “keeping her going” through lockdown and someone else said they would now break lockdown to drive there just so they could see the harbour.
