Election officials die in Niger blast

DEADLY violence struck Niger’s presidential elections on Sunday when seven members of the National Electoral Commission were killed as their car hit an explosive device, the African nation’s government confirmed.

Three others were severely injured in the explosion which occurred in Gotheye, in the west of the country.

The attack happened while citizens of the former French colony were voting in the second round of the country’s presidential elections.
